Great Election Headlines

But not only is that the best headline so far from the campaign, the story also has the best lead:

The Conservatives have edited an Internet ad showing a bird pooping on Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion to remove the defecation scene.

Luckily, Harper has made it perfectly clear that he does not approve of the defecation scene in the least bit:

Tories say the clip was the result of an overzealous web designer and Conservative Leader Stephen Harper apologized for the defecating puffin, calling it “tasteless and inappropriate.”

Mr. Harper said he didn't know about the web clip before it was posted Monday night. “Belittling images are not fair game,” Mr. Harper said.

Belittling images are not fair game?!?!?

Has Stephen Harper visited conservative.ca at all in the past year?

This is probably the least surprising gaffe we'll see all campaign. My only regret is that I didn't put "first Tory photoshop screw-up" as a question on my election pool (submissions due tonight!).

  • it is very good luck for a bird to poop on your shoulder.

  • Will Conservative numbers droop after they stoop to poop?

  • haha you're on Dionbook

  • Wow, I can't believe anyone ever thought that would fly. Lame.

  • Speaking of low blows, your Dionbook entry is so entirely inappropriate and ruthless. The personal attacks apparently extend not only to Liberal MPs but also anyone who may vote Liberal. Really classy. I cannot believe the level of immaturity demonstrated by the Conservatives only 3 days in. Who is running things over there anyway, a bunch of frat boys?

  • Although I'm somewhat flattered to be included in Dion book, I tend to wonder how many people who aren't major blog geeks are actually going to find half the stuff in there clever.

Like, are undecided voters going to change their vote based on a Scott Tribe or Kady O'Malley joke?

  • I was just watching the Ignatieff AK-47 movie. Is it just me or would Jeremy Irons be PERFECT to play Ignatieff in a movie?

Consistent with previous expressions of support for Scar over Simba, if Iggy becomes leader and runs on the slogan "be prepared" I would absolutely vote for him.

  • That AK-47 movie seems so random to include on the site...

  • Yeah - I actually think that site will backfire. Harper's two criteria for negative ads were supposed to be...
    1. Are they true?
    2. Are they relevant to Canadians?

Most of the stuff on that website is true, but isn't relevant, and frankly, is kind of mean and personal - OR incredibly random. Like that William Lyon Mackenzie King attack... I mean King is my favourite PM, and I am working on a phd so it is kind of personal to me, but it doesn't really lower my esteem of Dion.

I figured Harper had this one in the bag, but after looking at notaleader, I'm not so sure.

  • I've never heard of "Dionbook" or notaleader til this post/thread. Just dropped in -- that's the kind of politics I really don't care for, I think it's wrong to be that insulting to voters. Shame we're this easily fired up over perception of personality.

Don't get me wrong, I like Harper over Dion as PM. I just don't dig this kind of approach.

  • Its not surprising this is how Conservatives campaign, have you ever met any?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:15 a.m.

  • Nearly everythingabout the CON campaign is "tasteless and inappropriate".

  • Consistent with previous expressions of support for Scar over Simba, if Iggy becomes leader and runs on the slogan "be prepared" I would absolutely vote for him.

That's my LOL moment for the day. Bravo!
