Doing His Job

The volume of praise for Conservatives on this blog is no doubt fleeting. And I'm positive I have never said nice things about a Conservative Premier here before. But after reading this story, I've got to give full marks to John Hamm. Instead of throwing a hissy fit, flinging insults, and taking down the flag, Hamm quietly negotiated to ensure his people got the best possible deal. As a result, Nova-Scotians will be better off.

Will it get him votes at home? Probably not. Danny Williams, meanwhile, will likely get re-elected with a massive majority. But John Hamm did what he was elected to do and he deserves credit for that.

  • Being that I love LaP, it is difficult for me to disagree with Williams, but you have a point Calgary Grit. When a noble, upstanding man such as Martin promises you something and then 7 months later has yet to deliver on it, you need to stay steadfast, and believe in the power of Paul. Paul will eventually come through and save you from despair. He will give you strength to walk on through the shadow of darkness. He is the light, and only through He shall Newfoundland be saved.

In all seriousness, Williams made a good strategic decision, one that is helping Hamm now. He realized that Paul is a pussy and that he will back down whenever someone stands up to him. That is why these guys have an extra 12 years on the table. My prediciton is that if he does something even more drastic they will get even more.

God forbid if we ever have to deal with terrorists under Paul (although he has a history, what with the Tamil Tigers and all). He would certainly wilt under the pressure, like he has done consistently througout his time in the Langevin block.

We need a strong, decisive, consistent leader like LaP to come and save the country.

  • I lived in Nova Scotia for four years and have learned to respect Hamm for his quiet leadership. While I never voted for him, he is ably handling a minority situation.

  • Martin's handled this terribly, I'll agree. Scott Reid did not help matters early on and, as usual, there hasn't really been a clear message coming out of the PMO. Just like on gay marriage, or Kyoto, or health care, or anything really, no one is arguing the government position clearly.

  • Oh my god, there is a great deal of helpful data above!
