Remember?

How Stephen Harper's cozying up to the nationalists and the nation resolution were going to lead to a major breakthrough in Quebec?

  • It coulda been that way, CG. Much as I hope I'm proven wrong, if "my team" does poorly on Tuesday in Quebec, it has more to do with how the campaign went, than with the pre-election stuff you're referring to.

  • But why did it not lead to a breakthrough? Because Harper's policies helped elect Charest+Dumont, and have eliminated secession as an issue (at least for now), with neither the Bloc nor the Parti Quebecois bringing it up. Of course, when the election is about ideology, as it is in Quebec, Harper loses some of his left-leaning soft nationalist base.

Eliminating adscam as a national issue also helped.
