Milestones

From an alert reader:

On Friday April 4, Stephen Harper will surpass the 787 days that Paul Martin Jr. served as Prime Minister, moving himself into 13th place on the all-time list. What kind of odds could you have gotten in December 2003 on this happening?

For the record, Prime Minister Steve would (will?) dethrone Mackenzie King to grab the top spot on July 13, 2027.

Which is just when John Baird's greenhouse gas emission targets will kick in...

  • I can't believe the Liberals are saying they are going to sit out the immigration bill vote and then 'reverse' the damage Harper does when they get back into power. We all believe that one, just like they did with NAFTA.

The Liberals should write a book on 'How to make yourselves irrelevant', honestly I don't see them getting a majority government until long after Baird's greenhouse gas emission targets kick in.

  • Hard to believe. As much as I disagree with Harper's agenda and the way the Conservative Party of Canada operates - there are things the LPC can learn from his success about organizing a party and building grass roots support.

I certainly hope the country does not need to live through a Harper government that lasts through 2029....

  • Nice little factoid.

Harper certainly has served up more than a few platters of piping hot crow for his critics over the last two years and change.

There are more than a few commentators who would have us believe Stephane Dion is cut from the same cloth; at his best when underestimated.

I guess we will see, but I certainly don't see it.

  • Harper is a control freak bully who runs his party with an iron fist. His party accepts it, I imagine, because without him they are nothing and there's no replacement on the horizon. When Harper's gone, the party goes to 70 seats tops.

Dion's position isn't remotely similar. He's Joe Clark.

  • Don't forget that Martin was PM during two election campaigns; PMSH's days in that office don't include any.

  • Soon Rona Ambrose will pass Jean Lapierre in days served as a minister

    I expect a post...

  • PM's election record as PM 1-0

SH election record as PM 0-0

the incumbent is supposed to have the advantage.
