Draft Fidel!

The Frog Lady has the inside scoop on the Castro for Liberal leader rumours.

I'm on the fence about this one. Fidel has been out of Canada for a long time...but he does have a lot of experience...I think I still need to read his Middle East statement before deciding whether or not to support him.

  • Could Cuba then become the 11th province?

  • Rick Mercer did a rant a while ago about Canada merging with Cuba to form "Canuba". We'd surround the Americans and really piss them off in the process.

  • He does have the advantage of reaching out to a lot of people who are not in the Liberal fold. While getting on, he has a youthful spirit; he's passionate about social justice; and he believes in steering an independent course with respect to the US. Maybe he's the leader to do that NDP/Liberal merger that Cherniak's on about.

If he's on-side on softwood, he's my man. He's just the opposition that Harper needs. Well, maybe I need to put that a different way. :) With Fidel in the PMO, Harper will spend his last days in Miami. What this country needs is a good five-cent Cohiba. ¡Venceremos!

  • Very wry.

I always enjoy a nice dig no matter where it's directed.

  • See my latest Cuba Post for a portrait of Fidel as a Trudeau Liberal.
