Kennedy Generation

A few of the Kennedy youth heading to PEI this weekend have set up a travel blog to recap their wacky hijinx. Liberal MP Marc Holland has even joined in with a guest post.

  • Worst. Blog. Entry. Ever.

CG, why aren't you talking about the Draft Jimmy K movement which is sweeping the nation? (The nation of Haiti, that is.)

  • What do either of these comments have to do with the committed youth that made the trek to PEI in support of Gerard?

  • The committed youth that made the trek to PEI, by definition, are dull. And we really don't need dull.

In these long hot summer days, as we sit wallowing in puddles of our own sweat, futilely trying to cool down with luke warm beers, what we need is refreshing rumour-mongering, breezy character assassination, and zesty scandals. We don't need earnest youth "full of promise and energy" and their self-important personal discovery of civic responsibility.

On the other hand, if in the midst of their metaphoric journey towards a bright shiny Liberal future these happy little Liberal Youth ran over a hitchhiker, got bent on bad 'shrooms, participated in a deeply sick and twisted orgy, and shot their way out of a liquor store hold up gone horribly wrong, then we'd have something. I feel less sticky hot just thinking about it....

  • scott,

at least they are doing something with their lives, not like others who sit on their couch and bitch to the world. When you do somthing important someone might listen to you!

  • Sara,

You need to lighten up and smile a little. Life is too short to be so earnest and serious.

And, in the big picture, I would not include travelling out to a Liberal Youth Caucus as a momentous undertaking akin to "doing something with their lives". It's a dull roadtrip. Working on a northern reserve, would be "doing something". Enlisting in the armed forces, would also be something. Walking from Istanbul to Hong Kong, would fall into that category. As would learning an obscure and dwindling Indonesian dialect, teaching reading to inner city youth, raising a family, or designing a more effecient windmill.

So, go have a beer. Cool off a little. Stop being so dull.

  • So....you count joining an organized criminal gang....er, I mean, the Liberal Party as "Doing something" with your life?

IF that is the case....then I would just say listen to Scott, and GET A LIFE.

    Cheers scott....have a cold one.

  • just because I don't agree with something political does not make them a bad thing. They are young and getting involved which is more than most...
I get nailed all the time for stuff I have done because people don't agree well too bad stuff it... and yah I've bought plenty of beer got my childcare cheque remember!
