In what will certainly be dubbed "Raitt-Tape-Gate"...

Apparently one politician doesn't like another politician. And there's tape to prove it!

For those just tuning in now, Lisa Raitt is in more trouble, with the Chronicle Herald set to release a "damaging" tape of her bad mouthing Minister of Health Leona Aglukkaq (yes, I had to look the spelling up), after a failed injunction request.

Unconfirmed reports also have her calling the Conservative Party a warm and comfy mat with lots of fur on it. More details to follow...

  • You'd be suffering from a heck of a bad cold not to smell a rat here.

Ms. MacDonnell manages to misplace secret documents and mistakenly tape her boss for five hours then lose the tape recorder?

Both articles end up in the hands of bureau chiefs and her dad just happens to be a top fundraiser for Michael Ignatieff.

I doubt that Ms Raitt can survive this.

I thought we had seen all of the dirty tactics during the Paul Martin days but clearly, the worst is yet to come.

  • OMG!!! I am so blessed that I do not see the world through the eyes of paranoid freaks like the previous Anonymous. Not only is MacDonnell a mole who would give up a very good job and look incompetent doing it for the sake of embarrassing a Tory minister for a week, but she forced Lisa Raitt to say what she did too. No wait! She doctored the tape! Raitt did nothing but show concern and speak highly of her colleague, and either MacDonnell or the Liberal-purchased MSM doctored the tape. See Feschuk: "It's obviously Rich Little." No. Scrap that. Feschuk was a Martinite. Dirty tricks! Dirty tricks!

  • MacDonnell left the tape behind 5 months ago, they said in another article. The newspapers decided it might be worth listening to it after the events of the past week.

  • Raitt's comments were totally insensitive, but I think the real story here is that Michael Ignaiteff decided to prop up the Harper government because he was threatened with retaliation by the CEOs of three major banks from the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.

Good to know where he's getting his marching orders!

  • I guess we know where you get your marching orders from silly little anon/biff. Marching around liblogs desperately trying to change the channel.

I love it when you guys show how desperate you are.

  • Ritz referred to Canadians suffering from listeriosis as "thousand cold cut"
Ms Raitt thinks Cancer is "Sexy"!
One thing for sure those people are "sick" and should have their heads examined.
In another note, some "Anonymous" claims that he "smell a rat here".
I noticed that he has been placing the same comment on every site "I read a rat"!

  • Asher, like the media, you are missing the bigger issue. The issue isn't the scandal! of insensitive ministers, it is whether or not the files (listeriosis or isotopes) are being managed effectively. In either case it was hard to tell given how much ink was given to "the scandal!"

Anybody who believes that politicians don't talk that way is naive. Politicians ask "How can I win votes, or cabmin street cred" - that is their job in a democracy. If politicians cared about some vision of the public good we would be far worse off (because we might often not share that vision). Democracy does not work because we elect virtuous people, it works because we elect poll-obsessed nitwits (great minds are better used elsewhere) who want us to vote for them, and so, do what we want.

Moreover the world where politicians carefully censor themselves in private, spewing platitudes like a Paul Martin speech, a lot less would get done. Politicians would have to waste time framing their political objectives (which they would obviously continue to pursue) in acceptable ways, nor would they avoid exploring sometimes controversial solutions to problems.

Heh. Says the commenter who can usually be found fighting Liberal fires at Janke's blog.

  • Hosertohoosier, there is nothing more naive than trying to act as an intellectual person trying to explain the obvious. SHE WAS CAUGHT ON TAPE MAKING DAMAGING REMARKS and that is enough. People base their judgement based on perception (the delete, distort and generalize filters assure that). And this is how democracy works. There will always be assumption that politicians should be honest. (Only Judges care about the whole truth).
From the way she and Mr. Ritz handled their "mouth" it is enough to generalize how they are handling their files! This is a no brainer (same species as Mulroney!) Crooks!

  • Hey john, you're right. I often cut and paste the same comment over and over and over again on various BT blogs.

Oh no wait, I don't do that at all...

  • The thing you're writing is a big blunder.
