And Then There Were Four
For past vote results and demographics, Pundits Guide is the place to go. Last time around, the Liberals took it by a 53-33 margin - I'd expect that gap to narrow a bit for this one.
And while the NDP won't win, they are putting up a candidate with an impressive resume.

See, this is exactly the kind of colour I *don't* do at the Pundits' Guide, and is what I count on your readers for, C.G.!

Won't be narrow at all. By-election, low voter turnout. Oliphant gets his vote out, he wins convincingly.
Layton could be hurt if this by-election is a replay of Willowdale. NDP fourth, behind the Conservatives and the Greens.

mushroom,
as in Willowdale, a poor NDP finish will mean nothing. Don Valley West is in Toronto, but like Willowdale it is an upper middle class riding with little in the way of Dipper sentiments. The Greens, on the other hand, can do quite well here (the Greens beat the NDP here provincially).
If the NDP underperform in Hamilton, real downtown Toronto (like south of St. Clair), Northern Ontario, BC or the Prairies - that is when Jack Layton is in trouble.
