I know it's just a matter of opinion, but those ads aren't clever, nor funny.
By Robert Vollman, at 2:23 p.m.
I like the ads, though I have found that in the Mac-PC ads, I tend to empathize much more strongly with the PC (ps: the British Mac-PC ads are great).
By french wedding cat, at 2:47 p.m.
It's great to have ads and all, but seeing as how the Liberals are flat broke, what's the point of making them if no one is going to see them?
They're mildly funny, but only because the PC guy is visually dorky enough to make me laugh.
The girl is not funny at all.
By sir john a., at 3:36 p.m.
The ads are pathetic. Liberals have a stupid sense of humour and trying to paint conservatives as ignorant morons won't work. Typical Liberals talking about cutting carbon and the environment and yet they didn't do anything for 13 years and our emissions went up higher than the Americans. There's the Liberal record. If you want to read something funny go here: www.notaleader.ca
Read the Kyoto dog blog. Now thats hilarious!
By Emilio, at 3:46 p.m.
emil - that Kyoto blog is designed to appeal to someone with the mind of a 12 year old. Glad to hear you like it.
By Gayle, at 3:55 p.m.
Royal Canadian Air Farce (I think, or maybe it was 22 Minutes) used the same idea a few months back, doing the Mac-PC ads with the liberals and conservatives...
By laura, at 4:10 p.m.
The ads are alright!
Good for the Young Liberals!
By MississaugaPeter, at 5:21 p.m.
Hmmm, I bet they are pretty good, they look well done. Problem is, I CAN'T STAND those PC/Mac ads =( so they probably leave a different impression that what was supposed to happen =P
By Tylere, at 6:25 p.m.
The first ad with the name changes is kind of crappy, but the other one is funny.
Hosertohoosier - That's actually been a big issue with Apple's campaign, a lot of people really do like the PC guy a lot more than the Mac guy.
By Unknown, at 6:32 p.m.
Eh... the Conservative guy's overacted style is kinda funny, but the Liberal girl is incredibly boring, as well as a liar (she claims that meeting Kyoto's requirements will prevent GW-caused sea level rising, but even Kyoto's staunchest defenders say that it will take a lot more than that).
also CG missed the global warming ad and linked to the name change one twice
And yes, Kyoto's Dog Blog is funnier than these ads.
By The Invisible Hand, at 8:26 p.m.
I felt the ads were a bit too on the nose to be funny; "Why not try convincing people with ideas?" - Eh. Obviously, it's true, and the thing that one should do, but it does not make for good commercial banter and sounds a bit too forced/cliche.
However, I still laughed, and the bit about name-changing and marketing was good, seeing as what we have now is a government more concerned about marketing and vote-gathering than solutions. I mean, I know the essence of politics is to try and get more votes, but the least they could do is not be so obvious about it being their only concern! ;)
By Brandon E. Beasley, at 11:48 p.m.
They may not be the best ads ever made, but the Tory attack ads are pathetic in comparison.
By WeeDram, at 12:12 a.m.
One of them's dumb, but the other two are indeed clever and funny. Which isn't a bad ratio, really.
By Idealistic Pragmatist, at 8:12 a.m.
And then Canada's blogging elite et all became acting critics. We all know this one goes more for the laugh than the message. If we wanted a strong message, they'd have gone with solid blue background, white lettering, and photoshoped cut outs of the PM in sufficiently akward posses. Check out www.notaleader.ca if you're looking for the Rolls Royce of Canadian political advirtising! Ya, it doesn't get much better than that. Honestly, how much polling must have been done to put together that gem?
By Mr.E, at 11:08 a.m.
So these ads are saying that the Liberals are smug and arrogant like the Apple guy and the tories are decent and hiliarious like John Hodgman? ;)
By bza, at 1:16 p.m.
The YLPC ads are cute at best.
It would be nice to have a good ad effort from the actual LPC.
I'm not sure why they're comparing the Liberals to Apple, when most of the world uses Microsoft Windows and will continue to use Windows.
By The Rhône Ranger, at 3:03 p.m.
Those ads are really good. Specifically the one about dressing like a Liberal. The other's ok, but the 'dress like a Liberal' one is great.
By Matt Bondy, at 7:40 p.m.
To this conservative, these ads look almost like a Liberal attempt at suicide.
I prefer that the Liberal party get their act together and do a more sincere and effective series of ads.
There are a lot of very dedicated Canadians in the liberal party with a lot to contribute. You have some house-cleaning and re-organizing to do and I wish you would stop moping over Ignatieff and Dion and elect a real leader.
If this keeps up, Jack and the National Dipstick Party will get an upper hand, and we all know that means serious trouble for Canadians.
The Liberals have been BAD. Playing fast and loose with public money and skimming funds in so many ways, however, a Liberal Party that comes back from the edge is far better than a Liberal Party headed for quicksand.
Far wiser for Liberals to re-focus on real threats to our free enterprise lifestyle and I stress *Freedom**.
We will all have to pull together to defend against the clever stealth of fanatic Mullahs and Acmahdinejad who are just waiting to get a *starter* arsenal of Nuclear weapons to charm us with.

If Liberals fail to renew your focus now, soon it will just be too late. = TG

Our freedom is fine. God save us from the incompetence of bush, cheney and harper.

Not clever. Not Witty. Not funny. A tragic illustration of Canada's artistic talent heading South, leaving this pathetic residue behind. Get a life, the lot of you.
