Oh Ralph...

...what will that crazy guy do next?

I'll throw up some stuff on his health care proposals once I've had a chance to look them over a bit more closely but, for now, I'm just shake my head and wonder how this guy gets away with absolutely everything...

  • See my blogg comment on Klein as an abuser. This is typical last year during a one on one TV interview broadcast province wide he berated the interviewer over his questioning of the Third Way. See what a couple of drinks will do.

  • The difference between Canada and the Soviet Union:

    Soviet Union:

A young lady wants to buy a car. The dealer tells her that she will get it in about two years.

    She asks "What day?"

The doctor says: "Monday, May 21st, 2008, 4PM."

She says: "That's going to be a problem"

    Doc: "Why?"

OLady: "The plumber is coming in at that time."

    Canada:

An old lady walks into a hospital for a hip replacement. The doctor tells her that she can get it in two years.

    She asks "what day?"

The doctor says: "Monday, May 21st, 2008, 4PM"

She says: "That's going to be a problem"

    Doc: "Why?"

OLady: "That's when I have my cataract surgery appointment."

  • Oh wait, if you need a hip replacement, how the hell are you gonna walk into a hospital?

Well you could buy a cane. But that should be made illegal in Canada because you're PAYING for services that might not be available to everybody.

Canada sounds like a terrible place, perhaps you should leave and go somewhere better.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:49 p.m.

  • Ralph Klein also beats his wife.

Alberta is a wonderful province. A drunk wife abusing, possible child molester that throws objects at teenagers and likes to beat homeless people up.

    Klien for Liberal Leader!

  • Anonymous,

Canada's healthcare system is 30th in the world in terms of outcomes, while we spend the 3rd most as a proportion of our GDP.

Maybe instead we should just make it the best in the world like our education system, which costs less than the American model and combines a healthy private system with a public one.

  • "Canada sounds like a terrible place, perhaps you should leave and go somewhere better."

That's a good idea - cribbed from the Soviet Union.

Typically Liberal ideology: If you don't like something, you should shut up, take your marbles elsewhere and leave. Only government knows best, stupid peons should pay their taxes to support gun registry boondoggles, corruption rings, importing Romanian strippers into our country, and paying for Lie-bral pizzas.

Or you can vote NDP, watch your taxes increase, and live in Sask. or Manitoba and watch homicide rates break out the party favors and watch as money gets thrown in either greater quantities to the altar of 'universal' healthcare - a system in which only your doctor's privileged contacts and acquantinces can actually go see a specialist.

That's not the Canada my forefathers died on the battlefields on Pascchendaele, Normandy, and Vimy to defend.

Never mind that I pay thousands of dollars in taxes to Lie-bral governments over the years, I have no right to criticize their conduct, make changes, or chide them for the fact that because of their actions - my grandmother is dying on a waiting list in this country and that I have to pay $5,000 to send her to the States to get treatment when I'd rather be by her side in Canada.

    Incompetence = Liberal Policy
    = Corruption = Murder

That's the difference between Conservatives and Lie-bral/NDP.

Incompetence, corruption and murdering old people on wait lists do not belong in my Canada.

So, don't you dare to tell me to take my marbles and to leave the country I was born in, that I helped found, that generations of my ancestors have fought and died for simply you believe old people should die on waiting lists.

If being Canadian = supporting Liberal incompetence, corruption and wait lists so long that my relatives will almost surely die, then is there anything good anymore about being Canadian?

Yes, there is. It's called hope. I believe that hope can make a difference, that hope will drive away the evil that exists in this world, drive away the fear, the pain, the suffering, the darkness, the hatred and the intolerance that the Lie-brals have inflicted on this country since the days of True-dope and his false hope.

That hope lies in Stephen Harper, Ralph Klein, and even conservative-minded liberal leaders like Jean Charest and Gordon Campbell who are willing to take a stand against the healthcare beast and do what is right.

Conservatism = Hope trumping fear, responsibility trumping recklessness, strength trumping inferiority.

    Choose Your Canada.

  • This was dumb. Even though I do support much of Klein's reforms as I do not believe a parallel private system will automatically mean the end of medicare if proper restrictions are put in place. Still Klein should not get into temper tantrums and instead by willing to stand up and defend his plan.

By Blogger Monkey Loves to Fight, at 2:21 a.m.

  • I have not decided whether this is all an act and Klein and Harper just are playing politics. I think probably. After all, Conservative rule in Alberta is premised on the provincial government being opposed to Ottawa. Klein is putting on a show for the media. He is coming in hard. Harper, on the other hand, will publicly oppose him and come off looking like a white knight, but he will only make a half assed attempt to stop such “reforms”. Klein will scream Federal interferance well all the while working with Harper to dismantle health care, much to the delight of the NCC, in piece meal fashion behind seens.

For those in the dark, Harper headed up the National Citizens Coalition for 3 years (1999-2002) and was VP for 2 more (1997-99). The NCC was founded in 1967 to oppose public health care and has never abandoned such a goal.

  • "Conservatism = Hope trumping fear, responsibility trumping recklessness, strength trumping inferiority."

    And then I hurled.

  • Man, Ralph just gets classier and classier. Throwing things at high school girls?

Maybe he should start drinking heavily again, he was funnier then.

By Blogger Green Stone, at 9:12 a.m.

  • "Typically Liberal ideology"

Everything if just typical Lie-Beral ideology.

And conservatives are always right. All hail conservatism!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:11 a.m.

  • Firstly, I've had a few beers with Ralph, and he's not a bad guy... which is one of the main reasons he's always winning.

Secondly, we already had a Football player for a premier once and all he did was cost us a crap load of money, and all we got in return was a day off... "Family Day".

So while I agree it would be novel to have a reason to vote another way, as long as the Liberals are going to have a guy like Taft as leader, you'd best get used to a Tory Government for a while yet.

Put a decent slate of Candidates together, and maybe the Libs might get a little farther along.

Right now the only other viable option is the Alliance party, so that tells you what Alberta thinks about the Libs and NDP...

Brian Mason, gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

By Blogger Joe Calgary, at 10:25 a.m.

  • Joe Calgary, you got quite the Premier in Alberta.

So was beating up on the homeless and mentally handicapped too tough? Is he now reduced to picking on 17 year old schoolgirls?

Maybe next week he can steal candy from a baby?

Alberta proves that money doesn't buy class.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:38 a.m.

  • He pays off Albertans just like H-Dog pays off parents.

That's how he gets away with it. I spent most of my gas rebate on guess what? My natural gas bill.

By Blogger Glyn (Zaphod) Evans, at 10:51 a.m.

  • Ralph was funnier when he was just a big ole drunk. Then you could write off anything he did as alcohol-induced.

Now he just comes across as a mean old bastard prone to inexplicable bursts of anger.

By Blogger IslandLiberal, at 11:38 a.m.

  • Ralph Klein, the "ugly Albertan". What a dicktator!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:39 a.m.

  • I think throwing a book at the Page was pretty dumb too...

Given Ralph's history for doing dumb things, I don't think it's necessarily out of form for him.

My favorite is still "Why don't you frogs pack your tents up and go home". The guy is blunt, I'll give him that.

When you start calling someone in public life an abuser, a child abuser, a wife beater, and intimating the things Mr. Plawiuk does on his site... that's verging on liablous slander.

I'd be a little careful with that sort of thing personally, and if I were Plawiuk, I'd hope that my website never comes to the attention of Ralph.

He might be a little guy, but his stick is pretty big.

And you can say what you want about him, I'll only defend his personal actions so far... but I challenge you to find a better Premier over the haul as long as Ralph's has been.

He was a strong Mayor as well.

He's been disappointing too... but as opposed to what other options? He came about at a time when the Province needed to make some really shitty decisions. I don't suggest all of them were the greatest, but many were necessary. I won't hold it against him for at least trying to do something.

I'm not happy with his "Third Way", nor do I believe he has done nearly enough to try and fix the existing system.

By that token though, how much real noise have the people living here made to get him to do something more indepth about Healthcare.

I don't see people marching on mass in protest. I don't see people lining up to get rid of him at the next leadership convention. There wasn't mass protest when he made his cuts, and in the end, if Albertans are really upset about what he's doing, why don't they show it?

The guys been winning massive majorities, his party popularity is huge, and it's been clear in the past at least that the voters love him...

So for all your whining about him, there are some stark realities smacking you down.

I'd say to the Provincial Libs, get your heads out of your ass', pick a real leader, and get some decent candidates for a change, and maybe people will feel differently about the Conservatives.

Some innovation, some real change for a reason people can fathom, might help your cause. In a province with one of the highest standards of living in the world, the second hottest economy in the world, virtually zero unemployment... but where education needs twigging, healthcare needs reform, infrastructure needs repair and investment, housing is in shortage and expensive, inflation is on the rise, old people are not being looked after properly, Unions are being crushed... surely there is room in there somewhere for the Liberal or any other party to start really challenging an entrenched Government.

What do we get, ex-football players and communists. I've read some pretty interesting insights from Liberals in Alberta over the last 6 months, so I know there are some smart ones out there.

Why don't you step up to the plate? Or is it easier to sit back and bitch.

I've seen some of the Liberal Parties concepts on Healthcare. A third of it is just more red tape, half is already happening, and the remains are a step backwards.

A couple of novel ideas in the mix, but nothing outstanding. You'd think in a system that costs 9 billion a year, they'd have come up with more meat.

    No wonder Ralph got pissed...

By Blogger Joe Calgary, at 12:54 p.m.

  • Ralph is in need of “Hanger Management” and the sooner the better. He’s a bully just like we see in school yards and each time he doesn’t get his way(s) he throws a tantrum (just like a two year old). Albertans voted for change at the Federal level, when are we going to wake up and toss this embarrassing buffoon out. He requested input from Albertans on his “Third Way”, who in their right mind following his tantrum yesterday wants to take the chance to get in his way and subject themselves to this embracement. I think his “Third Way” should be renamed “My Way and My Way only”.

  • Maybe the little girl caught Raplh plagiarizing again, he got upset and threw the book at her.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:57 p.m.

  • the saddest thing about this is that the girl was just doing her job and had to be non-partisan. I mean, for all we know, she could have been a Liberal-supporter and approved of their joke or she could have been a staunch fan of Klein. And either way, she got attacked for not being able to show an opinion.
