Fixing Martin for a Generation

I'd say things are off to a good start, wouldn't you?

This might be a bit of an aside, but it strikes me that the only way the federal government can make a substantial contribution to improving the health care system is to take it away from provincial jurisdiction. It seems that one of the major problems is that every province has its own health care policy and trying to coordinate between them and Ottawa is just asking for endless trivial debate. I don't think just injecting money is sufficient to provide good health care, I think it's a matter of prioritizing procedures, increasing numbers of hospital beds (which I guess would involve some injection of capital), and finding some sort of enticement to keep MDs in Canada (as much as I hate to say it, I think if the gov't offered large tax subsidies for clinics and private practices this might actually keep a few more GPs here). That's just my two cents though....

P.S. I realize that this 'blog is generally concerned with federal politics but are you planning to write much about the upcoming provincial elections? It just strikes me that us more left-leaning (and by left I just mean not pro-Conservative) Albertan bloggers should try to get people out there and voting and maybe send Ralphie a message.

I'll definitely be writting about the provincial election once it gets going. I'm a big Kevin Taft fan and Klein has been looking really bad of late. Sure, it will still be a massive majority, but I'm definitely going to shift my focus to that once it gets closer.
