Today's Dose of Irony

"The problem for a leader who has never been in the trenches, he doesn't know what loyalty is all about."

-Former Liberal, Bloc, and Liberal MP Jean Lapierre

  • Yet what he is saying is the painful truth.

There should have been a real leadership race. :(

  • Lapierr's right. Feel sorry for the grass root Liberal support base, who I bet are just as sick of Iggy's TO inner circle as Coderre is.

    Ignatieff's in over his head.

  • Did Lapierre at least have the decency to smirk while he said it?

  • Query re Lapierre -- how did he vote in 1995?

Otherwise, can see him as a soft nationalist who was in politics out of personal loyalty to Paul Martin.

Which would fit with his line -- personal loyalty, not party affiliation.

    ***

    Otherwise, utter hilarity.

You mean the ones in Outremont and Jean Le Bare who weren't going to be able to vote for the candidate of their choice, and will now be able to in open nominations?

You need to get better talking-points. Ones that make sense.

    He's never said...

    That's a Yes, then. :p

    Okay, utter hilarity.

  • Lapierre probably wants to run in Outremont himself ...for the Bloq. Except that he knows Cauchon would wipe the floor with him.

  • Lapierre talks about loyalty? LOL

He's a stooge for CTV - they lap it up and he's feel just so important.

    What a clown.

  • "Loyalty in politics" - an excuse to demand that someone do what's in everyone's worst interests for the sake of doing what's in one person's best interests.

  • Lapierre?!?! What did he do as a Liberal organizer in Quebec? Loose us seats! Ignatieff has won elections and run in a leadership race, finishing a close second to a combined Dion-Kennedy vote! I was rooting for Dion but never have I questioned whether or not Ignatieff has been in the trenches and paid his dues; he has.

  • Frankly, we should cut the bozos lose. There is one Liberal Party of Canada. Anyone who thinks the "Quebec Wing" deserves special treatment, need to find their own, non-Liberal party.

  • Lapierre.

The last Liberal leader who won a majority had no time for him.

    None.

So Ignatieff has won twice in downtown Toronto, and finished second in a leadership race?

    That's hardly an impressive resume.

  • Hell he finished first in the Toronto leadership race (Iggy, Rae, Kennedy, Findlay, Dryden, Volpe).

That gave him the standby ticket which he cashed in when the winner of the non-Toronto leadership race (Dion, Brison) missed the flight entirely.
