Well that wasn't so hard, was it?

An open nomination in Outremont, involving the guy who held the riding for over a decade.

Ignatieff's star candidate gets the much more winnable Jeanne-Le Ber riding, where the local riding association (presumably) won't resent her appointment.

[UPDATE: Le Prohon will run in an open nomination in JLB too. Even better!]

  • Three cheers to Bob Rae!

And don't worry about the local losers in Jean LeBer, they are lucky to have someone willing to represent them!

  • A great day for democracy!

A nomination race for Outremont and both Le Prohon and the members of Jean LeBer get the shaft.

Not that I expected much more from a guy who has never won a nomination in his life and has been appointed to every political job he has ever had but the people of Jean LeBer deserve better.

  • And best of all, Denis Coderre is overturned humbled.

There were 4 or 5 MPs who publicly spoke out against him. Looks like his grip on the party isn't quite as iron-fisted as previously thought.

  • I wrote Bob Rae and gave him a piece of my mind, in a nice way.

  • Ignatieff likely just picked up two seats. Good move (though I'm sure very partisan Tories will just switch from calling him undemocratic to calling him indecisive).

  • Agreed. Both those seats stand a very good chance for going Liberal now.

It would have been better to do this without a public spat, but as far as Liberal infighting goes, this is pretty bloodless.

  • Thank god this is over!
I hope this serves as a lesson to Coderre that the grassroots of this party will not tolerate anymore of his bullshit.
Kudos for Bob Rae, Raymonde Folco, YLC executive and others for standing up for the cause.

  • Impressed with Michael's decision. Though he's not yet had to deal with such antics, he's proven to be a quick study. Thank you to Bob Rae, Raymonde Folco, and the rest of those responsible. Now the NDP and the Bloc are up against formidable opponents. Canadians win.

  • YAY! Mulcair is done!

  • I hope Coderre quits politics.. the man represents everything wrong with politics... I hope Iggy learned his lesson about his quebec lieutenant...

  • One thing I have learned from this incident is that there is huge underprepresentation of staffers from Quebec in OLO.
Other than the self serving Coderre and Brigitte Legault, Iggy has no one else to listen from Quebec. I'm convinced this led to the huge error in judgement.
    This needs to change fast.
Young Liberals won't be silenced until this happens!

  • Will anyone be running against these two in the respective ridings. How open is that.
How did the Bloc do in Outremont in the by-election.

  • This is great. I was worried about Iggy the first time around because he was too close to Coderre and the Bourassa "soft-seperatist" approach. It seemed that Coderre was so stong it was blinding the most reasonable decisions (let Cauchon take back the seat from double-talking "we wont' prop up...err...will prop up Harper" Mulcair! So now the correct decision has been made, the reason I was concerend over Iggy's leadership (overly-influenced by Coderre) is less concerning, and finally, it looks like we are getting our shit together in Quebec.

  • Not out of the woods yet, from what I've seen. What about Saint-Laurent—Cartierville? The idea that Stéphane Dion be expected to step aside is disgraceful.

  • The guy is definitely just, and there's no doubt.
