The Race Is On

It appears the unofficial Liberal leadership race has moved to cyberspace. Joining "Martin Cauchon for PM" on the net is "John Manley for Leader". And, of course, this blog has made no secret about our desire to see Joe Volpe as the next Liberal leader.

We recognize that Ignatieff supporters would likely prefer writing 100 page theses, rather than blog posts, on his chances, and that the McKenna crowd have their hands full running the PMO right now, but surely there's a young Brison or Bevilacqua fan out there willing to lead the charge for their man, isn't there?

  • I should have a nice 10-12-pager on Ignatieff for you by the end of the semester. ;)

  • lol. this is getting funny. \

  • Nice to see people taking an active view in leadership politics this far out.

By Blogger Concerned Albertan, at 7:55 p.m.

  • Funny how none of the serious contenders have blogs yet...

By Blogger Jason Cherniak, at 8:08 p.m.

  • That is a low blow Mr. Cherniak. Have your hands full sending out Bevilacqua's ten-percenters?

  • I bet Harper cuts Volpe a great big cheque.

By Blogger matt, at 12:02 a.m.

  • volpe! volpe! volpe!

btw, jason, who are the serious candidates?

By Blogger daveberta, at 12:04 a.m.

  • Volpe for Leader? Dear God, I hope Martin doesn't die or resign before the next election... although I agree with Matt that Harper (or at least a couple thousand CPC members) would happily throw money at him for his leadership campaign.

It's not fair of you to toy with us like this.

  • Go Sheila!

  • QuebecHarpermaniac says:

Am I the only anglo who caught sight of Sheila Copps on the quebec version of "Dancing with the Stars"?

Geez, we sure love her here in Quebec.

Can you Liberals explain to me why you turfed her out like a leper from your party?

I don't understand why you are so hostile towards such a fun-loving, strong woman.

Her politics are not my cup of tea, but certainly, if she were in my party, I would have treated her with oodles more respect and civility than you Liberals did.

  • "I would have treated her with oodles more respect and civility than you Liberals did."

Then you would have been treating her with more respect and civility than Sheila ever treated anyone else with in her 35-year political career. I am not much of a Martin fan, but Sheila just got what was coming to her.

  • I believe that Copps is gone for one big reason:

    1) She could not sign up as many members as Valeri, who wanted the riding and had just as much right as her.

By Blogger Jason Cherniak, at 1:09 p.m.

  • QuebecHarpermaniac says:

    But she can dance!

Meanwhile, Valeri is proving to be a cunning House leader (Martin's best cabinet pick, to be sure).

  • I'll get right on that Ignatieff essay as soon as I'm done all my other ones.

By Blogger Ryan Ringer, at 1:29 p.m.

  • Charlie, Volpe's not that cunning. Really. I once owned a brighter goldfish. However, that said, the fact that he runs rings around the CPC.....well, it's kinda sad.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:14 p.m.

  • QuebecHarpermaniac responds:

    Don -

I don't doubt you had a goldfish brighter than Volpe. I'd bet that goldfish had more integrity than the entire Liberal cabinet.

And yes, we Tories are dumb as posts. But, at least we can tell the difference between two italian names that start with "V". (I know, Don, its tough, they all look the same...)

  • AHHH>....Sigh..........nailed by Charlie Fallon...........been a tough week already.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:35 p.m.

  • Jason; If Manley and Cauchon aren't "serious" contenders, who would you rate as "serious" contenders?

By Blogger calgarygrit, at 7:07 p.m.

  • Jason wrote: "1) She could not sign up as many members as Valeri, who wanted the riding and had just as much right as her.

lol. and Stephen Harper will be the next PM! lol. Jason, you crack us up. :-P

By Blogger daveberta, at 7:15 p.m.

  • I totally agree with Jason, we have to wait for the serious contenders for leader. I say James Shields for leader, and Jason Cherniak for National Director (the only sad thing about this idea is that Jason could possibly do a better job)

In all seriousness, I think Jason is one of the most insightful and unbiased bloggers on the web. He presents a "fair and balanced" point of view regarding Liberal Politics. Calgary Grit, you should take some pointers from him and quit catching Martin's farts. I always look forward to Jason's constructive, sometimes scathing, but always balanced critique of the Federal Government

By Blogger fartcatcher, at 1:40 a.m.

  • Wow jason has a parody blogger (fartcatcher) - I'd say he's really hit the big time.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:29 a.m.

  • Jesus. I had no idea that this guy was so taken with me.
