And thus begins the new era of cooperation, with John Baird as House Leader

John Baird, famous for telling Toronto to "fuck off", now complains about Toronto elites. Suffice to say, none of Toronto's mayoral candidates will be making a lot of calls to secure John Baird's endorsement.

Baird slams 'Toronto elites' over gun registry

Government House Leader John Baird has denounced Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and NDP Leader Jack Layton as "Toronto elites" over their support for the federal long-gun registry.

On the bright side, calling Michael Ignatieff a "Toronto elitist" is a slight improvement from calling him a "Harvard elitist". It's progress towards a more civil political dialogue, and given the state of affairs in Ottawa, we should be grateful for any progress.

  • Baird learned that from Mike Harris who used elitist in every other sentence. It's a buzz word from the Con kiddies to get people outside of Toronto angry at them (Torontonians)

  • At least Harris, unlike Harper, was actually able to win seats in Toronto.

  • I may have missed it but did he actually blame Toronto or did he label two leaders MI and JL as elitists that are located Toronto?

  • ...and who is John Baird but a rather lisping, mincing overgrown Little Lord Fauntleroy who has lived his entire life in either downtown Ottawa or downtown Toronto - and who has never had a private sector job in his life. He also seems to enjoy going to lavish galas where he can ogle pretty young men? Oh, but according to him, we have to watch out for those Toronto elitists like Layton and Ignatieff...Give me a break!!

Harper is too moderate to win seats in Toronto.

  • he's just channeling his inner Trudeau, flipping the bird or Chretien telling Western Canada their votes don't count and Westerners are not important.

Liberals . . . grounded in Toronto and still hating Western Canada.

  • If one's only defence is to name call, then it's a weak and lame tactic.

Baird and the other name-callers are to be pitied more than reviled.

Cowards and desperate men name-call. He's thrown in with that lot apparently. So have Harper and the rest of the conservatives who resort to such base tactics.
