The Death of Politics

CBC’s Politics to be canceled

This is disappointing, to say the least. Yeah, yeah, the show won't be the same without Don, but it looks like Power Play (if it survives) will now have the time slot all to itself.

As Far and Wide suggests, you can send CBC a complaint here, and ask them to reconsider.

  • That's dumber than a bag of hammers.

A phrase that we would not have heard, if it were not for Politics with Don Newman.

  • Almost as devastating as the day I found out CBC had canceled Wild Roses...Ok, who am I kidding? It's not even close. Still, sad to see Don Newman go. It would have been nice to see Susan Bonner take over, instead of having the show canceled.

  • What? No more Canadian Politics on CBC?!
I say: Off With the Head of English Programming!

  • All I want is more of the 'At Issue Panel'. It is nice to see Andrew Coyne and Chantal Hebert at the top of their game.

  • Hmmmm....so Harper appoints a Conservative donator/supporter to head the CBC and it's been downhill ever since.

    I'm suspicious.

We'll only have one political show - CTV - Conservative Fox news of the north?

And, why is CTV bellyaching about money when it just built a big new fancy, scmancy studio?

    Doesn't smell right.

  • I think it's more than Newman leaving, CBC needed to save costs (because Hoppy is cutting their funding) and probably made sense to cut the show of the guy whose already leaving (not that I like the decision, but I can see where they were coming from).

  • You know sometimes a guy just wants to scream: "WTF!WTF!WTF!"

Course you know that state sponsored media (radio) in early Nazi Germany also, coincidentally, canceled its top discussion program of the day "Polotik"! {okay- I made the last part up - but holy-christ it feels like we are entering an age of heightened statism!)

  • And, why is CTV bellyaching about money when it just built a big new fancy, scmancy studio? And how much did they pay for the Hockey Night in Canada theme?

  • It won't actually have success, I consider this way.
