If I had more money honey. Would you love me...

Liberal fundraising numbers:

Q1 2009 - $1,831,843
Q1 2008 - approx $846,000
Q1 2007 was under $600k

When put into context, there's still a long way to go, but it's encouraging nevertheless...

  • “Why don’t Liberals donate to the party as much as other political parties? “

The LPC has no hard ideology unlike the NDP and extreme right. You can't expect the LPC to match their fund raising from core supporters.

The LPC is learning to fund itself like celebrity politicians. High visibility, glad handing and many paying engagements. The Clintons raised many millions for themselves each year. Obama made his pile from his books.

In the future, party leaders are likely to follow the American model. Issues become important but the policy wonk may become unelectable.

  • The LPC has no hard ideology unlike the NDP and extreme rightThe Conservatives are the best fundraisers of them all, even before they got into government, and if anyone thinks they have an ideology, I'd love to hear what it is.

I think the news is extremely encouraging.

The Liberals had grown arrogant, angry, and lost touch with the people. The fact that they have such a huge increase in financial support is a sign that they're changing, and people see it. That will translate into votes. Big-time.

  • When you wrote "context" I was thinking about the prorouging mess a few months ago. If the LPC could fundraise better, it wouldn't have been so panicky as the CPC threatened to cut public funding. Not to say the "coup" people were in the right, but it did seem a little overblown. Anyway, good luck!
