The Life and Times of Oily the Splotch

Conceived in Tory focus group rooms, oily was born several weeks premature when Conservative strategists induced labour. Immediately, Oily became a child star and it wasn’t long before everyone, from Tory staffers to Jack Layton, were wearing oily merchandize and rattling off his catch phrase “Yoo-hoo: Hello! Over here!”. However a cloud (of smog?) hung over Oily’s career as accusations of bad business deals surfaced. Just a week old, Oily’s once promising career appears to be over, despite rumours of a comeback tour with Oily, Joe Camel, and Lenny the Led Paint Chip.

For more on the saga of Oily the Splotch, Stephen Taylor provides some “insider” background, as does the Globe.

  • Please. You embarrass yourself by comparing Layton's environmental record and the no-record, no-position Harpercons. Layton introduced Bill c377 that requires the government to implement policy to reduce ghg emissions based on scientific analysis and the Kyoto protocol. This being only the most recent of his (and the NDPs) many environmental legislative initiatives.

No the NDP does not support a carbon tax (remember just months ago when Dion didn't support a carbon tax either...) the NDP supports cap and trade. A perfectly viable policy that is also supported by many environmental organizations including the Suzuki Foundation.

You can check out NDP enviro policy and initiatives at their website www.ndp.ca.

  • Umm...what? Isn't the Layton reference from the fact that he was seen joking around with some of the Oily brigade that were running around Ottawa?

  • To Anonymous:
Yeah, but does ndp.ca have "Tips For A Greener Living" like the Liberal website does? And if so, does it have a grammatically incorrect title? Didn't think so.

  • If Jack Layton evers came up with an original thought or, offered someone elses original thought before it was market tested or, offered something truly sincere.....that'd be his first day on the credibility scale.
Jack's a Harperite puppet that dances to Steve's tune.....spare us the bandwaging.

  • Layton wore an Oily shirt? Got a picture?

  • Foot, voters think original ideas are scary and dangerous. We're dumb as bricks.

  • Nah, I think Jack just possed with the oily shirt people...

Which is a big step for a guy who has railled against big oil and big ass (sic) for the past few years.

  • i am probably out to lunch, but does anyone else think oily the splotch look very similar to some cartoon character for a 1980's public service announcment/cartoon?
