VEEPSTAKES '08
Which reminds me, it’s almost summer time, which means it’s time to start thinking about a bracket game to pass the time on this blog. Three years ago it was Greatest PM, two years back it was Greatest PM we never had, and last summer was Best Premier. Given some of the mad ballot stuffing we’ve seen in recent years, I suspect the theme is going to have to be relatively politically neutral or, at the very least, bracketed in a way to keep it interesting.
Thoughts?

or...
best election
best riding
best pundit
best election ad (you will have to dig up some old one)
best speech in Canadian history (check the CBC archives)
Or we could re-do some historic leadership elections.

Best Prime Minister (future) who's not in parliament?
Oops, that's still a bit partisan. Okay, then how about this one - Greatest Canadian actor/author who'd make a Great Prime Minister?

William Shatner for Prime Minister!

John Candy would have been the best PM.

Best floor-crossing.

In honour of the Olympics, you could try something like "best canadian athlete" or "best canadian olympian".

I say go with US politics in honour of the Race to the White House. Best President? Best fictional president?

Most important election (including provincial/municipal ones too).
Biggest scandal (will need to dig up historical ones).
Best political ad would be great if you can find enough youtube videos.

I agree with uwhabs, you should do an Olympic theme..either Best Olympic Athlete (Canadian) or Best Olympic Moment (Canadian). Stuff like Ben Johnson's 100m gold, Donovan Bailey's 100m gold, men's 4by 100 gold, Silken Laumenn's Olympic comeback to win silver, etc.

Best Government:
My vote would go to Pearson 65-68
Worst Government
Either Deif's majority or the present one.

As much as best fictional US President would be a lot of fun, it just wouldn't be fair...Bartlet would win in a walk!
I like the idea of either best Canadian (or International) political speech or best Canadian (or International) political ad. Both are art forms in their own right, and the decline in quality (or at least the perception thereof) in modern political discourse certainly has been discussed much in light of the current American Presidential race.
If you went international (particularly with the best political ad) you would also likely get a lot of submissions that none of your regular readers have been exposed to before.
Anyway, that's my two cents.

Just random brainstorming here, man - no internal editor on.
Post-Democratic race, how about Best Non-White PM We Never Had, or Best Female PM Never, etc?
Best Canadian Actor Never Elected -- a la Reagan and Schwarzenegger and Venture etc.
That's dumb, lol!
Best Blogger As PM - probably would turn too nasty, maybe. But could be cute fun.
Best Fed Election Yet?
Best Governor-General?

Best scandal would be the most open ended, neutral and fun.
By Anonymous, at 11:43 a.m.
I was thinking of best GG too Jason. Political but (at least sort of) not partisan.
By Anonymous, at 12:06 p.m.
Scandal would be fun, but hardly politically neutral.
Maybe it could be bracketed by party...
