Today is the last day to
buy a membership for the Liberal Party to be eligible to vote at the delegate selection meetings in September. So anyone out there who would like to have a say in choosing the next leader of the Liberal Party should sign up online today. Who knows - it might be the start of a magical journey which one day lands you as the ambassador in a tropical country.
Campbell Clark looks at some of the nuts and bolts of the campaign in the campaign in today's Globe. The ground war often gets overlooked by the mainstream media but (for better or worse) that's how these things are won.
UPDATE: Jimmy K proclaims that Volpe has sold 35,000 to 37,000 forms which will put him "
pretty well in the lead".
Uh-huh.

The Clark piece in the Globe reminds me of the cover story in Toronto Life about signing up ethnic communities as members in the Liberal party. It was quite messy-knives pulled at Liberal meetings-but had a big pay-off. The result is lots of Liberal seats in the GTA.
Of course the real goal is to get the new members out to vote, something Volpe will likely excel at and the smaller leadership campaigns won't have the resources to do.

Interesting to see Bob Rae as the only campaign using a professional call centre.
If I were an enterprising journalist or ambitious blogger, I might check out if it's being paid for properly, and not in any way being donated by the "senior Ontario organizer."
Or am I just being too paranoid here? lol

Doesn't the donation of a call centre's services count as a donation? Like, what is the service worth?

Seriously,
You guys need to get Volpe out of your party, now.
For us, he's the gift that keeps on giving. :)

Volpe is currently a boil on the backside of the Liberal Party of Canada. If only there were a way to lance that boil.

Aww..come on guys, you know that Joe Volpe is the Gallant of your party. On the other hand, we muzzle our crazies these days..the Liberal Party lets them run for leader and reportedly have a shot to winning based on their ability to sign up ethnic communities. But then again it would be great to see Volpe win and do for the Liberal Party what Stockwell Day did for the Canadian Alliance.

Maybe someone should check the age requirements on new Liberal party members?
=P

I wouls suggest that Volpe is grossley overestimating his numbers. Suhk Dhalliwal sold a lot of membeships for Volpe and he has now joined Iggy. I am sure Volpe is counting them as his but where or even if they vote is a big question.
