Get Out the Vote

Liberals may be great at stacking nomination meetings, but when it comes to the internet, we're sadly lacking. Big campaigns from the Shotgun and Small Dead Animals have pushed Joe Clark ahead of Trudeau. Then again, considering Joe Clark endorsed Martin last election, maybe it's Liberals voting for Joe Who?

The vote doesn't close until Tuesday, so there's still plenty of time to weigh in on Clark/Trudeau, Pearson/Borden, or, dare I say it, begin the Kim Campbell magical comeback!

  • I'd watch out. The last time I had a poll on my blog, asking about the most popular politician in Canada (Martin, Harper, Duceppe, Layton, other), a well-known Blogging Tory tried to manipulate the vote by voting about 30 times within 20 minutes or so.

It was my mistake, because I had forgotten to set the IP address lock at the time, but thanks to my visitor stats, I was able to track down the culprit and cancel his votes altogether.

So, in a nutshell, I agree with you: the Tories are quite adept at handling the Internet, especially when it involves manipulation and deceit.

  • You say: one vote per person and computer. One well-known Blogging Tory keeps trying to post comments to my blog (which are moderated anyway), and each time he comes up with a different IP address (I just ban them one by one).

So, as a word of warning, that individual has access to at least a handful of IP addresses, which he can use to manipulate the results of your poll.

Conservatives don't believe in the truth; it's all about winning for them, at all cost.

  • Well, I have IP tracking...

If somebody wants to spend every waking hour to help Joe Clark win an internet poll then hell, all the power to them!

  • CO - "So, as a word of warning, that individual has access to at least a handful of IP addresses, which he can use to manipulate the results of your poll."

They're called anonymous proxies and there are more than just a handful out there.

"Conservatives don't believe in the truth; it's all about winning for them, at all cost."
You're right, I guess that's why we got out of NAFTA and no longer have to pay GST. Please.

CG - great idea for a contest and I like the March Madness method. Something different for a change.

  • It amazes me that, at any time, Conservatives would put Joe Clark ahead of Pierre Trudeau, even as a joke.
Trudeau was always one of my least favourite Prime Ministers, because of his mendacity and arrogance, never mind his policies and politics.
Joe Clark, however, could never hold a candle to Pierre. At least Pierre knew where he was coming from and how to articulate his philosophy.
Clark, on the other hand, always had to stick his finger in the air.
The best symbol of Joe Who that I ever saw was when he won the leadership of the PC Party. The vision of him standing with his wrists reversed on his hips haunts me to this day.
    Truly, anybody but Clark.

  • I think its less a matter of the Conservative bloggers working furiously to win this race, and more a fact that the conservative blogosphere has much more presence than the left. SDA can just make one post and hundreds of people are going to the poll instantly.

Obviously Trudeau should kick Clarke's ass. Although I liked Clarke's economic policies back in the day, he is a huge putz.

Anyway, try not to get too worked up about this. Conservatives are just trying to excercise some kind of power, since they have zero where it really counts.

  • It won't truly have success, I consider this way.
