  • Heh, Rossi is really trying to push his position as a municipal and provincial outsider, because apparently no one ever looks to the federal scene(?). It's certainly amusing, but he's got a point. He's not involved in all the questionable issues and problems that come with the history of Rob Ford, Smitherman, Mammoliti and Pantalone. That alone could give him a boost. I might be involved in a different city municipally, but there isn't a lot of love for incumbents and career politicians these days.

  • Anon - I don't have anything against Rocco...I just think it's a bit of a stretch for him to go against political insiders given his role with LPC.

    I might still vote for him. Still undecided.

  • It seems like Rossi will run a solid 4th in this race.

    Smitherman should win, with Pantalone and Ford flanking him on the right and left. Rossi's getting squeezed out.

    I realize you weren't asking me, but I suspect that the Bob Rae/Jack Layton numbers are soft, relative to Ignatieff's. Being just an MP and not leader of a contender party, respectively, neither have been subjected to the same framing job that Dion and Ignatieff have been.

    Everybody loves Jack Layton, until they imagine him running things. Hell, the guy was too left wing for pre-amalgamation Toronto, despite running against the least charismatic candidate in Canadian history.

    On the other hand, I would suspect the left to galvanize behind the unified left party under any of the three, resulting in a truly competitive election.

  • hosertohoosier, odd comment on Layton given the recent poll showing with him as the leader of the coalition the Conservatives would be defeated.

  • I was thinking of that poll when I wrote what I wrote. My point is that Jack Layton has never been subjected to serious scrutiny or attack ads. Moreover Canadians evaluate him on the basis of whether he seems like a nice guy, not on whether he would make a good Prime Minister.

    You can't really tell that nowadays because few pollsters poll for intensity of opinion, especially with the best PM question.

  • Well when a poll ask which party would you support in an election based on the leader and Layton is in the lead. I think Canadians certainly have thought of Layton as PM and feel comfortable with it.
