The Life and Times of the HST

A fascinating behind the scenes look at the HST negotiations in today's Toronto Star.

  • It's done! The FightHST campaign in BC has the signatures. Completed the first Citizen Initiative petition with 705k signatures. Far in excess of the 10% requirement, equivalent to 43% of all voters in the last election! In fact, almost as many signatures as the government's votes in the last provincial election.

Gordon Campbell is going to tough it out. They gotten a few business associations to challenge the petition even though the BC electoral officer has allowed the petition. The next stage is for selective recall of the vulnerable members of the government caucus. A successful recall needs 40% of the registered voters in a riding.

Why do 90% of BC residents oppose the HST in the province?
