Culture of Defeat

Too lazy in Halifax to work?

OTTAWA - If anyone ever stops Nova Scotia farmers from hiring migrant labourers to harvest their crops, they would destroy a lot of businesses because unemployed Nova Scotians don’t want those jobs, says Gerald Keddy, the Conservative MP for South Shore-St. Margarets.

"Nova Scotians won’t do it — all those no-good bastards sitting on the sidewalk in Halifax that can’t get work," Mr. Keddy said Monday.

  • GK is right. This is refreshing point of view.

Big f****ing deal Libs. Most Nova Scotians will appreciate his candid statement.

  • As someone who grew up in PEI...

I had a discussion with someone when Harper said we were defeatist. She said "We are not defeatist, we just can't do it (be as rich as Alberta)"

I nearly laughed at the defeatism in her attitude.

My PEI Politics professor even said, and I again quote directly "Of course we are defeatist... But you can't SAY that. What is he, stupid?"

Hence why they elected a social democratic provincial government which caters directly to these people - including sweeping all ridings and counties where Keddy's federal riding covers!

  • Many don't realize that a lot of those on the streets in Halifax have mental and/or addiction problems and are unable to hold down a job.

Plus, as some commenters at Chronicle Herald have stated workers from other parts of the province cannot afford to travel to these locations on a daily basis. There's little public transport available. Only immigrants are offered lodging, etc. while Nova Scotians must find their own lodging, meals, etc. while trying to provide for their family 'back home' and all on $10. an hour for seasonal work. There are 2 sides to every story and yes, there will always be a small portion of our Canadian society who take advantage of the system.

Keddy's remarks were calous and typical of so many in the CRAP party. Attack those less fortunate than they are.

  • BS Penny, sometimes you have to make a sacrifice to earn a living. Is it a fact that Nova Scotians could not get room and board or did that come out of someones butt?
