Save the Date

ITQ has the calendar figured out.

The Tory accountability report must be tabled the week of September 28th, with a Liberal opposition day to follow 2 sitting days later (Sept 30 to Oct 6). This parliament could also meet its maker if the Tories introduce a ways and means motion around that time - which would probably be the way they'd like to go down, since Harper could then go around yapping about how the opposition parties voted against the home renovation tax credit (only, he'll probably phrase it as "the Liberal-socialist-separatist coalition killed the home reno tax credit"). Now, the Conservatives could bring in the ways and means motion 2 weeks earlier but that would nix Obama-Harper photo ops, so I can't see that happening.

So, if you're planning a "non-confidence party", I'd start booking bars for late September or early October.

With a 36 day campaign minimum, that sets us up for a November 9th or November 16th election.

  • I expect there will be a ways and means motion on the order paper for the first week back. There's no point in waiting to find out if Mikey is serious.

  • Ralph Goodale said they support the tax credit, but also said 'Revenue Canada routinely rrecognizes tax changes, without the law actually being passed',so Harper is lying again.

  • If I'm Ignatieff, I unplug Harper's argument by saying that not only will the Liberals re-implement the tax credit, but they'll extend it. And reno companies that hire on workers during the period will receive an employee payroll tax break. Ta-Da!

  • Yeah Burl, that's a lot better solution than just passing the bill the first time out. Try explaining that at the door.

Ta-Da. The sound a door makes when its being slammed in your face.

  • Sure and Loyola Hearn voted down C-43 on account of constituents being so understanding about re-passing the Accord later. Hell, the entire Tory caucus voted for C-43 in the end. If Iggy's crazy enough to rely on Drummond's cover, he might as well hire Dion's camera team.

  • ITQ missed a lot. E.g the Don Martin scenario. Obama on the 16th and the Reno Tax Credit vote on the 17th. He called that scenario. Zap. We're Dead.

Go ahead. Home Owners will be at least as understanding as Nfld's when Iggy says we'll pass that later.
