I Feel Pretty! Oh so Pretty!
The 25-year-old self-professed "hard-core heterosexual" says wearing foundation "seems to go a long way. You get a lot of compliments."
Then there's Roz Weston, a 31-year-old reporter with Global Television.
"I find it relaxing. I sit on the deck with a cocktail listening to AC/DC and paint my toes bright red. Celebrity Bash is my favourite," he says.
Maybe it's just a Toronto thing, because I'm fairly sure that a "male makeup store" in Calgary would be one of the worst business ideas ever.

Didn't you guys invent the whole gay cowboy thing?

By berlynn, at 1:57 p.m.
Classic. But there should be an explanatory note to readers outside of Canada that this male make-up phenomenon takes place only in Metro(sexual) Toronto.
By JL, at 1:59 p.m.
Only in Toronto? I bet Myron Thompson paints his toe nails. Does Revlon make "Wild Rose"?
By nuna d. above, at 2:02 p.m.
Maybe a male make-up shop is something that Calgary needs, but doesn't even know it needs. You know?
By bigcitylib, at 2:07 p.m.
And the boys at the Globe wonder why it's referred to a "Toronto's National Paper?"
By deaner, at 2:43 p.m.
What's the point of painting your toes when their wrapped up in shitkickers???
Sort of like doing the best paint job of your life on the one wall few people will ever see.

C'mon, Bart, where is your Liberal tolerance?
By George, at 3:51 p.m.
Yep probably won't go over in Calgaary but thats why in working class Edmonton we have a Mens Spa, appropriately called the Board Room.
See my article Boys will be Girls on the Metrosexual phenomena. Say wasn't Brokeback Mountain filmed in Calgary?
By EUGENE PLAWIUK, at 3:58 p.m.
Calgary, I really don't get this post. So what?
Do the names KISS or OZZY Ozborne or David Bowie or Marilyn Manson or any actor that's ever been on stage or in the movies, or any newscaster, or any model mean anything to you.
Men have been wearing make up for a long time. I didn't even get into the Kings of France like the Louis' or George Washington. I mean male makeup has been de rigeur many times in history and in many places.
Oh I forgot the Maori Warriors and the Native Canadian and American Warriors. They'll kick your ass Calgary, if you make fun of their face paint.
And that Warrior face paint it's pretty Um 'masculine' and for lack of a better word.
Think outside your box Calgary.
By S.K., at 3:59 p.m.
I forgot all those boys in face makeup at sports games. I guess if your Flames could do a little better in the playoffs that male make up store would do o.k. lol
By S.K., at 4:02 p.m.
Sorry, i just can't get enough of this one I guess,
In Saturdays Globe there was an article about Elvis impersonators and they all wear makeup and lots of them are from the WEST.
And you know those spandex suits they wear, guess who makes them?
A man. And where does he live?
Calgary.
See Saturday's focus section for more details. The guy in the pick is from BC his favorite mascara is Loreal waterproof Lumina mascara. It's the only kinf he'll wear.

SB:
Oh I forgot the Maori Warriors and the Native Canadian and American Warriors
You're not seriously comparing Maori warriors to some guy in TO who thinks it's great to paint his toenails???? While I don't have any particular problem with that (hell, to each their own) I do feel it necessary to comment on your repeated comments that don't merit. Maori warriors don't have "face paint". They have "moko" which is a form of tattooing where a chisel is used to carve out the design on the face and then natural dyes are put in the wounds. These were performed as very serious spiritual and tribal practices. To compare hundreds of years tribal tradition to some guy who gets off on red nail polish is a bit much even for you!
By Scooge, at 6:04 p.m.
Why did I post this?
Because men painting their toenails is funny.
Elvis impersonators from Calgary sounds pretty funny too so I wouldn't mind reading that story.
By calgarygrit, at 6:05 p.m.
When I was a kid I painted my older brothers toenails bright pink once when he was sleeping to get back at him for beating me up.
Now that was funny.
It was worth the older brothers revenge.
By Aristo, at 6:24 p.m.
I've been painting my toenails each summer for years and I live 1500kms from Toronto. I absolutely love the way most women like it and that most guys are ambivalent towards it. For those guys who aren't down? Well, if they get really hostile, I can always place one of those prettily painted feet right upside their pointed little head.
By Omar, at 6:38 p.m.
Scooge,
I disagree. The assumption Calgary made was that painting and decorating of one's body and face is an inherently feminine activity.
Maori tatoos are face paint, very similar to Native North American face paint, it's just permanent. I am fully aware that male maori bodily decorations are tatoos.
I know Calgary was also being silly and funny because I'm not dense, which is why I teased him about the Flames.
However anthropologically, there are similarities between male hockey fan face paint and warrior face painit to distiniguish different tribes in battle.
Biologiically, paint or decoration in the male of many species is used as a sign of virility or power to females. Why toenail paint or foundatiion in Toronto for heterosexual males?
Youth and beauty are prized status symbols even for males in our culture, hence the foundation for smoother looking skin.
Toenail paint? It doesn't impress me even on women, but it is a way to distiniguiish oneself in a very large, very crowded, very socially cold place. (Sorry Toronto, you are frigid socially) Maybe it starts conversations for this man with women?
I do not intend to denegrate anyone's culture, but anthropological and biological coomparisons can be made, just the same.
By S.K., at 7:19 p.m.
Why only toenails?
By Yining Su, at 9:40 p.m.
Why only toenails?
Exactly...
It's time to put the liberal, back into the Liberal Party.

Typical lefty. Always making judgments about people. ;-)

I paint my toes sometimes and it looks great. I'm straight and married and my wife likes it too. I'm tough and wearing painted nails out makes you even tougher. See if you macho men could do that. It's also a lot of fun watching people look at my toes. Life is great. Have some fun with it. mytoes

OK Dear
You are really nice for the painting toe.Use the paint in nail toe. So calgary would be one of the worst business ideas...................
