The Daily Dinning

It seems that Jim has hired Scott Reid to be his new communications director:

Jim Dinning says it's time governments recognized the cost of post-secondary education includes not just tuition fees, but other costly items like accommodation and transportation - and beer.

"Today students have to cobble together a budget that doesn't reflect the full costs of books, supplies, living accommodations, transportation - and, frankly, beer," he told reporters as he laid out the education plank of his Tory leadership platform.

  • Jim Who?

  • I'd hate to say it, but I think Dinning is right here. Beer is something that a lot of students spend their money on as part of their education, and that's not going to stop no matter how people would like to wish it away.

Admitting it on a campaign, on the other hand...

  • Well, yeah, but should we be supporting students with more money on the assumption that they'll waste it?

This would be a good way to rally college-aged drunkards, but they unfortunately don't tend to vote.

  • Why is spending money on beer wasted money? Seriously, student aid should be predicated on financing a reasonable quality of life. I think Dinning's metaphor, poor as it may be, is that government ought to be realistic in its design of programs. Good for him.

    I resemble that remark.

Or at least I did when I was in University.

Student loan bill was one shocker of a beer tab by the time I was done.

  • If he was really being frank he'd include the cost of pot and condoms too.

    (I've never cared for beer ;) )

  • Dinning has lost my vote!

During Univeristy I was known to buy more than beer. I also needed Crown Royal, Jack Daniels, Absolout, Beefeater, ect ect.

Dinning is unfit for leadership because he refuses to acknowledge the diversity of the distilled sprit world, people need more than just beer.

  • Beer is a very important part of a University education. :)

Throw spring break in Daytona or Cancun into that budget too...
